A Landscape Shaped By Place and Purpose
Nestled on 6.5 sweaping mountain acres, the creation of this award-winning old-world style luxurty estate became an intriciate dance between formality and nature’s wild embrace; an accomplishment that we are honored to be recongnized for.
This entire project centered on privacy and a seamless transition from formal gardens to the natural mountain landscape beyond, echoing the client’s vision of a refined, yet welcoming estate.
Every view was carefully planned to showcase the scenic mountain backdrop and provide 360-degree views from the home’s large windows. Grass pathways run throughout the property, softening hardscape edges and creating small, inviting seating areas and private spaces perfect for family time. A charming garden pavilion, called the Thunder Shack, offers a quiet retreat overlooking the mountains and formal garden beds, a space made for contemplation and intimate gatherings. From formal edges to natural flow, the landscape balances tradition with the surrounding alpine environment—an achievement recognized by the 2024 NALP Award of Excellence in Construction.

The size and scale of the site brought big challenges. Planting 80 specimen trees, including the standout 40-foot Colorado Blue Spruce affectionately known as “Big Mama” with its massive 90-inch root ball, required specialized equipment, careful teamwork, and strategic planning. Access was limited by a creek on one side and dense scrub oak on the other, forcing a phased approach to staging and delivery along the single curved driveway that creates a striking first impression for visitors.
Irrigation complexity added to the challenge, with 80 valves spread across multiple zones requiring a dual water source to sustain the landscape through harsh mountain winters and dry summers. Balancing the formal garden’s clean lines with the rugged natural setting involved matching topsoil and boulders to those along the river, keeping the design firmly rooted in its environment.
The project’s logistical complexity and detailed execution impressed the NALP judges, who honored Sunline Landscapes with top recognition in the construction category, highlighting the team’s innovation and meticulous orchestration on this two-year project.

The stunning pool area offers both relaxation and multi-level gathering spaces, surrounded by stone terraces, ample seating, and mature trees that provide shade and privacy. Hand-selected boulders echo those along the nearby river, anchoring the garden to its alpine surroundings. The curved gate and matching wall follow the driveway’s gentle arc, completing the welcoming entrance that blends formal design with natural beauty.
The result is an estate that offers refined elegance alongside a genuine connection to the alpine landscape, a place designed and built for family, events, and lasting memories. This careful balance of scale and precisioin construction earned Sunline Landscapes the prestigious First Place 2024 NALP Award of Excellence in Construction for “Mountainside Estate,” celebrating a landscape that is as functional and private as it is breathtaking.
