PRESS RELEASE
On November 4, Sunline Landscape’s was honored to accept two first-place National Awards of Excellence from The National Association of Landscape Professionals in the Residential Construction ($1 million-plus) and Residential Maintenance categories. The national awards, the first in Sunline Landscape’s history, were selected by an anonymous blind panel of judges across the country from diverse professional backgrounds in the landscaping industry and marked the first occasion our company has submitted for such awards. Our NALP submissions tell compelling stories that showcase our ability to skillfully navigate a variety of projects that have many technical complexities and seasonal challenges.
For our construction category submission “Mountainside Estate”, our team highlighted a home nestled into the valley mountains that boasts a refined architectural style.
Centered around privacy, the design for this landscape features dozens of large specimen trees flanking the property, including a 40-foot tall Colorado Blue Spruce affectionately nicknamed “Big Mama”. Native plant material including spruce trees, native seeds, and wildflowers enhance the natural beauty and informality of the surrounding area.
Our client’s home is positioned a quarter mile into the property. The curved entryway serves as a single point of entrance and creates a striking first impression for visitors as they pass through the front gate. As you approach the home, boxwoods and raised paver edges near the interior strike a balance between providing ample structure without limiting the visibility of other areas of the property.
Staging, securing, and maintaining the plant material was the most difficult requirement of this project. To manage this process, we implemented a strategic plan to ensure the continuous vitality of the plant material over the two-year project duration. To maximize efficiency, we utilized smaller equipment, increased the frequency of trips, and even built a temporary holding yard onsite.
Other noteworthy features of the landscape include:
A personal garden with a custom stone water feature
Grass pathways and natural stone boulders
A large grassy exterior ideal for hosting gatherings or spending quality time with friends and family, complete with a perennial garden
Scenic mountain views from every vantage point
For the maintenance category, our submission “European Villa”, the property submitted is a vintage European villa. Every feature of this landscape is rigorously hand-manicured to ensure that the plant material flourishes and the fish in our client’s two Koi ponds are protected.
All of the plant material on this property is hand-maintained:
Our crew uses a half-moon shovel and sheep shears to prune the Creeping Jenny and stonecrop groundcover surrounding the Koi Ponds
To maintain the vibrant color of the lawn, the maintenance crew applies a special organic fertilizer to avoid harming the Koi fish. Certain parts of the lawn aren’t shaded so they use two separate timers for watering to ensure that we can extend the watering window to be most effective for all the microclimates present
The climbing roses adorning the walls of the property have been trained with expert craftsmanship to maintain their health and ensure a consistent bloom.
Layered plant material creates the border of the landscape. Turf, mulch, hollies, lavender, and hydrangea are followed with hard fencing, steel edging, and shaped topiary boxwoods. Climbing vines on the house create picturesque vantage points from any angle. All of these details are rigorously maintained.
The color palette of the landscape is vibrant but not overwhelming and is the result of our crews’ attention to detail and diligence in addressing challenges with irrigation. All of these considerations were decisive factors in earning a first-place award in the maintenance category.
The National Association of Landscape Professionals is the largest U.S. industry trade association representing over 1 million landscape, lawn care, tree care, irrigation, and horticulture professionals. NALP provides landscaping companies with the tools, resources, and networking opportunities they need to be successful
“To have a property we can submit for an award starts with our team taking accountability in the field. Our employees care and exhibit our core values, so we were able to have multiple properties to submit for consideration. The gold awards show me that not only does our executive team exhibit core values, but our team in the field also has the same mindset that our CEO does. That reflects the work we do.” -Taylor Anderson, Sunline Landscapes
